At UIU, we believe education is one of the most powerful tools to break the cycle of poverty.
Our mission goes beyond academics; we strive to remove financial barriers, create opportunities, and empower young people to become change-makers in society.
Throughout the year, our initiatives under SDG 1- No Poverty focused on financial support, affordable services, research and innovation, and entrepreneurship have helped students from low-income families to continue their education, nurtured new ventures, and extended opportunities to disadvantaged communities. Policy and Actions
- UIU is committed to supporting students from low-income backgrounds to ensure the successful completion of their studies. Thus, UIU has established a transparent and equitable scholarship scheme designed to support and attract students from low-income backgrounds. Each year, more than 75% of the student body benefits from scholarships and tuition fee waivers under this initiative
- Targeting students from low-income groups. The Admission Office and Public Relation Office (PRO) will take the necessary action.
- Along with the Scholarships schemes, UIU also offers Teaching Assistantships (TA), Undergraduate Assistantships (UGA), and Graduate Assistantships (GA) to students, providing them with an opportunity to earn money to support their study-related expenses.
- The Center for International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC), offers a 25% direct scholarship to all international students at the time of admission. Our international student community includes individuals from countries such as Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Palestine, Nigeria, Pakistan and Bhutan.
- International students can also avail a 100% Scholarship through recommendations from embassies of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Palestine, and Turkey located in Bangladesh.
- UIU provides Free Shuttle Services for students. In addition, the university offers a regular Transport Service at a nominal fee per trimester. UIU also operates both male and female Hostels, managed directly by the university, with accommodation fees set at a highly reasonable rate relative to the quality of services provided.
- The canteen offers meals at a discounted rate to make them affordable for students from lower-income backgrounds. For example, a chicken meal costs only BDT 65 which is nearly half the price of a similar meal at outside restaurants.
- Institute of Business And Economic Research (IBER), Center For Development of IT Professionals (CDIP), Center for Emerging Networks and Technologies Research (CENTeR), Power & Energy Training Academy (PETA), VLSI Training Academy (VTA) will take necessary training programs for growing up with sustainable business and encourage students to do so.
- UIU always welcomes students to build a startup. UIU entrepreneur forum regularly arranges programs on a start-up business.
- All concerned departments must have to arrange continuous programs on Health (covering Mental Health, Nutrition, Child mortality) and Standard of living (covering cooking fuel, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, housing, and assets).
- UIU established the Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation, and Commercialization (IRIIC) on February 28, 2023, to play a pivotal role in fostering research collaboration, supporting the startup ecosystem, and building an innovative nation by strengthening links between academia, industry, and government through technology. The Daily Star, one of Bangladesh’s leading English newspapers, covered this event.
- UIU actively engages in policymaking processes at the local, regional, national, and global levels to design and implement programs and initiatives aimed at eradicating poverty in all its forms. In addition, the Institute of Development Studies and Sustainability (IDSS) at UIU contributes to these efforts by participating in and supporting policymaking activities across various levels to advance the goal of ending poverty in all its dimensions.

Local Startups
United International University is supporting two startups CMED and Edusoft working in the health and education sector. In addition to that progress is made to establish an Incubation Center (5000+ sqft) with all support (seminar, lobby, workplace, networking, IT infrastructure) needed for the local startups to bloom with the support from the university.
Additionally, UIU Entrepreneur Club continues to play a vital role in inspiring and guiding young innovators to turn their ideas into impactful ventures. Through continuous mentoring, skill development sessions, and startup facilitation programs, the Club nurtures entrepreneurial minds and helps students transform their visions into successful business realities. These stories reflect UIU’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation, leadership, and sustainable growth among its students shaping the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
